Even Busy Tech Professionals Can Stay Healthy: Hsieh Pang-Yen's Path to Wellness

Men in the tech industry are often stereotyped as "geeks," but Hsieh Pang-Yen, the Global Marketing Director and Spokesperson of a leading security technology company, defies this image. At 45 years old, he is not only an outstanding tech professional but also an energetic sports enthusiast. From swimming, diving, and stand-up paddleboarding, he maintains an impressive routine of swimming three times a week, keeping himself in great shape and looking far younger than his age.

30 Years of Swimming: Hsieh Pang-Yen’s Unique Approach to Physical and Mental Wellness

As the Global Marketing Director and Spokesperson of a major security company, Hsieh Pang-Yen's workload is undoubtedly demanding. However, he has maintained a habit of swimming three times a week, covering two kilometers each session, for 30 years. He shares his passion for water sports, having earned certifications as a diver and lifeguard. He humorously notes, "I love being in the water so much that I've kept my hair short for 30 years—it's just easier to manage!" He also shares his diet strategy, focusing on reducing carbohydrate intake while pairing it with his regular exercise routine.

When asked how he balances work and swimming, Hsieh says, "Work will always be busy, but swimming provides me with a space for solitude and stress relief. It looks like exercise, but it feels like rest." To keep swimming for two kilometers without stopping, Hsieh explains, "I imagine myself as a nuclear submarine—once I start, I don't stop. Over time, my stamina just caught up naturally."

Interestingly, Hsieh discovered swimming somewhat by accident. During his student years, he practiced judo but frequently got injured. A doctor recommended swimming to strengthen his body and reduce injury risks. He fell in love with the sport and has kept it up for 30 years, using it as a method for stress relief. "Life naturally comes with challenges. Every exercise session helps release negative energy, and keeping this habit long-term prevents negativity from piling up," he shares.

The Gentle Power of Judo: Hsieh Pang-Yen's Philosophy for Success

In addition to water sports, judo remains one of Hsieh's cherished experiences. He recalls, "I initially learned judo because I liked fighting!" However, his passion grew as he trained through high school and university, eventually winning a collegiate judo championship. "Once I got serious, I realized judo isn't just about fighting; it's about leveraging flexibility against strength. It requires quick judgment, observation of your opponent's stance, and identifying weaknesses—all skills that are valuable in the workplace too," he says.

Hsieh recommends introducing children to judo early. "It builds resilience, encourages thinking outside the box, and sharpens decision-making skills," he explains. With enthusiasm, he adds, "The only downside of judo is the occasional injury—everything else about it is fantastic!" He also shares his preferred techniques: "Since I'm not very tall, over-the-shoulder throws work best for me. Taller people might prefer techniques like inner thigh throws or major outer reaps. The magic of judo lies in combining these techniques effectively."

Secrets to Handling Stress: Hsieh Pang-Yen’s Wellness Tips

Despite his active lifestyle, Hsieh often deals with muscle soreness. "I've tried everything—physical therapy, electrotherapy, acupuncture, patches, and scraping therapy. My experience with patches goes back to my judo days when I frequently got injured," he says. More recently, Hsieh notes, "Compared to post-exercise soreness, I experience more discomfort from poor posture in the office. If I don't have time for a massage, applying a patch is very convenient."

Hsieh shares his experience with the amor BtNPN Plant Nano Patch: "It's very effective for relaxing shoulder and neck tension. I usually apply it before bed, allowing my body to recover overnight. It not only soothes muscles but also ensures I wake up feeling refreshed." He adds, "amor BtNPN Plant Nano Patch releases its effects gently—it's not overly cooling or stimulating, so it doesn’t disrupt my sleep. The adhesive is also excellent, staying securely in place overnight without causing itchiness or sweat buildup."

For Hsieh, exercise isn't just about physical fitness; it's also a form of stress relief and a cherished hobby. "No matter how busy work gets, I always make time for my hobbies. Having a passion helps maintain balance in life, provides an escape from work, and gives a sense of accomplishment when goals are achieved," he says.
