Chairman of the Brain Vascular Disease Prevention and Treatment Foundation Recommends Leadtek Pulse Oximeter and H2 Plus

Professor Gao Mingjian: "Recently, I have often heard of people, especially the elderly, who get infected with COVID-19. They may have mild initial symptoms, remain conscious, and not show any signs of chest tightness or breathing difficulties. Some self-isolate at home, while others wait to be hospitalized, but in a short period of time, they suddenly pass away. This could be due to what is known as silent hypoxia or happy hypoxia, which causes the condition to rapidly worsen, leading to sudden death. This is due to the brain's ability to self-regulate (Autoregulation). When the body experiences low oxygen levels or high carbon dioxide levels, the blood vessels in the brain immediately dilate to increase blood flow to the brain, providing enough oxygen and glucose to maintain brain function. As a result, the person remains conscious and does not show obvious signs of rapid breathing. However, when the hypoxic state continues to worsen, even though brain blood flow may still barely maintain a compensated state, the blood supply to other organs, especially the heart, may reach a critical level. In particular, if the patient already has cardiovascular disease, acute myocardial ischemia or arrhythmias can occur, leading to sudden death. Therefore, for COVID-19 patients, it is very important to continuously monitor changes in blood oxygen levels. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent the rapid deterioration of the condition due to silent or happy hypoxia, potentially preventing sudden death."
