The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading globally, and close-contact interaction has become a major way for the disease to spread. Taiwan's medical system has been strongly impacted and tested as the pandemic continues to fluctuate. Reducing contact and improving medical efficiency are pressing issues that need to be discussed.

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Industrial Development Bureau, ITRI has promoted new medical solutions to distance from the pandemic. By combining technology connectivity and field evidence-based systems, they have partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Leadtek Technology, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, HealthLink, and AiVivo, forming a remote smart healthcare alliance to build a "healthcare industry ecosystem." This system offers effective solutions to the healthcare and pandemic issues Taiwan will face. The ecosystem provides remote monitoring and medical services to avoid crowd gathering, ease the pressure on on-site medical staff, and strengthen Taiwan's healthcare system to protect the people.

This year, the Industrial Development Bureau and ITRI have led relevant industries to promote collaboration between the healthcare and technology sectors and launched the "Remote Healthcare Monitoring System" using information and communication technology (ICT) cloud platforms. The system integrates IoT monitoring devices and AI-based intelligent detection systems to create the infrastructure for remote healthcare, offering O2O full-spectrum healthcare services.

The backend support is provided by Chang Gung Hospital to validate the platform and complete the remote healthcare structure. This solution can help alleviate issues in underserved areas with limited medical resources, reduce medical costs, ease the pressure on medical staff, and support current pandemic-related functions such as home quarantine, patient recovery value detection, and remote monitoring of suspected cases, contributing to the fight against the pandemic.

Keelung City Government Industrial Development Director Lin Qing-hai stated that according to statistics, the elderly population in Keelung City over the age of 65 has exceeded 60,000, accounting for more than 16% of the city's population, trending towards an ultra-aged society. Therefore, elderly care is currently the most important issue. He expressed happiness that the citizens of Keelung can be the first to trial the Remote Healthcare Monitoring PoC Verification System, and looks forward to a closer connection between communities, medical institutions, and government units, building a better Keelung. Additionally, this system can be applied to pandemic prevention measures through big data analysis, temperature and heart-lung function tracking, and foot traffic monitoring to help prevent the spread of the disease.
