Leadtek AI Stroke Prevention Screening Tour! Building a Health Protection Network in Penghu

The Rotary International District 3470 Lung Cancer Screening and AI Stroke Prevention Screening Train arrived in Penghu on October 9th. Collaborating with the Makung Rotary Club and the Cosmos Rotary Club in the Penghu Division, a large-scale screening event was held at the Ministry of Health and Welfare Penghu Hospital, attracting over 200 participants. During this screening event, Leadtek's HRV Guard Portable ECG Recorder played a vital role. This device not only accurately measures heart rate variability but also quickly detects atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias that may cause strokes. Utilizing AI technology, it helps identify high-risk groups, raising awareness about stroke risks and promoting early prevention and treatment to reduce the burden of disease.

The event was led by the District 3470 Governor team and featured support from Professor Tseng Yao-Lin, a thoracic surgery expert from National Cheng Kung University, and Professor Kao Ming-Chien, a renowned neurosurgeon from National Taiwan University. With the assistance of Penghu Hospital Director Kuang Sheng-Chieh, the event concluded successfully. Penghu County Government Secretary-General Tsai Chi-Hsien and Magong Mayor Huang Chien-Chung, among other local officials, attended the event to express their gratitude for the Rotary Club's dedication.

Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-Fu expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for their dedication, as well as the support from the Tri-Service General Hospital Penghu Branch and the Ministry of Health and Welfare Penghu Hospital. He emphasized that early detection of potential health issues can significantly reduce stroke incidence and the degree of disability, alleviating the burden on families, society, and national resources.

Chen Kuang-Fu stated that, according to World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, one in six people worldwide dies from a stroke. In Taiwan, one in four people will suffer from a stroke, with incidence rates increasing annually. Once a stroke occurs, it has a profound impact on families. Therefore, early stroke prevention screenings to identify high-risk individuals can greatly reduce stroke occurrence.

Professor Kao Ming-Chien emphasized that AI technology makes the screening process more precise and rapid. In particular, it is highly effective in detecting atrial fibrillation, a leading cause of strokes, providing immediate reports to help patients identify risks early.

According to Rotary Club statistics, since the screening train was launched in Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and Penghu, over 5,000 individuals have undergone lung cancer screenings, with abnormalities detected in 200 cases. In stroke screenings, over 12,000 people have been screened, with more than 10% showing abnormal results. With Leadtek's HRV Guard Portable ECG Recorder and support from professional physicians, more people can benefit from early, precise screenings to prevent major diseases and reduce morbidity rates.
